Meet The New 2022 Jeep Cherokee X

There's also a base price increase. A big one.
The current Jeep Cherokee dates back to 2014 and was given a mid-life refresh for 2019. But overall, it's changed very little and that's both good and not so good. Jeep designed and engineered a solid SUV crossover from the get-go but now the competition has more or less caught up.
For 2022, Jeep isn't changing much with the main exception of a new lower-trim model called the Cherokee X. Basically, it features some of the styling and features of the more hardcore Cherokee Trailhawk but for less money. There's a one-inch suspension lift, black 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, standard 4WD and the 3.2-liter V6. Inside you'll find upgraded cloth/vinyl seats with unique inserts. The Cherokee X won't be available until later this year and will carry a starting price tag of $33,995.

That's the same amount being requested for the Latitude Luxe, the new base trim. The previous entry-level model, the Latitude, has been dropped. Unfortunately, this means a price increase of $5,860 for entry into the Cherokee family. Bear in mind the increase does take into account the added features. What's more, the 2021 Latitude Luxe cost $2,195 less than '22 version. Also gone for the new model year are the Altitude, Freedom, and 80th Anniversary trims.
What's nice about the new Latitude Luxe base is that it comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control and a power liftgate. It's the only trim that does not come standard with four-wheel drive. The engine lineup also carries over, meaning the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft. Both engines come paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The 2022 Cherokee Trailhawk starts from $37,045 and the Limited kicks off at $38,745. None of the above prices factor in the $1,595 destination fee. For now, it's clear Jeep intends to keep the fifth-generation Cherokee around for a few more models years.
Sources indicate the sixth-gen isn't scheduled until 2025. This makes sense since Jeep has largely been focused on the newly redesigned Grand Cherokee and first-ever Grand Cherokee L. There's also the more luxurious Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, two critical models for the brand in its quest to move upmarket.
